When we use the term Irresistible Grace, we are referring to the Almighty, Sovereign, power of God that brings a lost sinner to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ - a power that will not, nay, that cannot be resisted.

There is a general call that goes out to all who come under the sound of God's gospel. This call can be resisted. But there is a special, inward call from God Himself that reaches the hearts of God's elect which cannot be resisted.

The Lord Jesus Christ said My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27.) The same sovereign power that was displayed when our Lord Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave is manifested every time a blood-bought child of God is delivered from the dark womb of unbelief and is translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son. It isn't the voice of the preacher that breaks down the walls of stubborn resistance. Rather, it is the voice of Jesus Christ our Lord, the same voice that even the winds must obey, that reaches the hearts of God's elect.

Those who were chosen by God the Father in eternity past and redeemed by God the Son on Calvary's Mountain are called with an holy calling by God the Holy Spirit. This is an efficacious call that makes God's children willing to come to Christ. God gives us faith to believe that Jesus Christ, through His substitutionary death, paid the price in full for all our sins.

Faith to believe that this same Jesus who suffered and bled and died for me has now risen from the grave and is seated on His sovereign throne of power, giving eternal life to all those who were given to Him by God the Father. The God of all grace, Who is seated on His Throne of Grace, calls His people with Irresistible Grace and they all believe in sovereign grace.
