RESCUE BAPTIST CHURCH

"DOES THE BIBLE TEACH LIMITED ATONEMENT?"

Gene Harmon

The Holy Scriptures clearly state that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of His people. He paid the price in full for their sins. Christ Jesus, by Himself, purged our sins by His substitutionary death. After He had risen from the grave, He entered into heaven having obtained eternal redmption for us. He was then seated at the right hand of The Father, denoting a finished work! Arminian doctrine teaches that the redemptive work of Christ did not actually save anyone; that His substitutionary death merely made it possible for sinners to save themselves. Those who embrace that doctrine are holding to a religion of works and do not see Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

We do believe that Christ's atoning work could have saved infinitely more than those who were chosen in Christ because His atonement is infinite in value. But God's Holy Word clearly teaches that the sufferings of Christ perfectly satisfied the divine justice of God for a particular people foreordained by God Himself to be recipients of His marvelous grace and sovereign mercy.

Please read and ponder the following Scriptures:

Mt. 1:21 — Lk. 19:10 — Jn. 10:11, 17 — Jn. 10:24 - 29

Jn. 17:1 - 10 — Rom. 5:6 - 10 — Gal. 1:3, 4 — Gal. 3:13

Eph. 1:3 - 7 — Eph. 2:13 - 19 — Col. 1:20 - 22 — 1 Tim. 1:15

2 Tim. 1:8, 9 — Titus 2:13, 14 — 1 Pet. 3:18 — Heb. 1:3

Mr. John Gill said, "If Christ died with an intention to save them whom He doth not actually save, not only His designs must be defeated, and His intentions frustrated, but His death be so far in vain. Moreover, their being not actually saved, must arise either from an incapacity in Him to save them, and a superior power in other men, or devils, or both, to obstruct His methods and designs; which can never be thought of Him Who is The Almighty."

We, at Rescue Baptist Church, believe the Word of God and the Bible does teach Particular Redemption (Limited Atonement). We boldly proclaim that God's power is not limited - the "He (the Lord Jesus Christ) is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them (Heb. 7:25). May every blood-bought child of God unashamedly and reverently proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour, that we are not our own, we are bought with a price - the precious blood of Christ, God's sacrificial Lamb!
