Moses and Aaron, God's spokesmen, stood before Pharaoh and said: "Thus saith the LORD GOD of Israel, Let my people go ...". Pharoah's arrogant, hateful reply was: "Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go." There was some truth in what Pharaoh said. He didn't know "the LORD GOD of Israel." But that wasn't the only thing he was ignorant of, concerning God Almighty. He didn't know the PURPOSE of God, nor the POWER of God. He learned, all too late, that "God works ALL things after the counsel of His own will" (Ephesians 1:11), and when God speaks, He "Will bring it to pass", and what God has "Purposed it, He will also do it" (Isaiah 46:11). Israel was delivered from that wicked Egyptian ruler by the sovereign power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pharaoh, and the whole Egyptian army, were destroyed in the Red Sea by the same power and purpose of God who set His people free.
Every one of us come into this world with the same wicked, stony heart that Pharaoh had. We didn't know The LORD GOD of Israel, and had no intention of obeying His voice. But, when God the Holy Spirit raised us from a state of spiritual deadness, and we heard the life-giving voice of Jesus Christ our Lord, He took away the stony heart and gave us a new heart, delivering us from bondage and the wicked power of Satan. With new desires that God Himself gives to His people, we not only obey the voice of our Lord and Saviour, we delight in doing so. Because of Divine Revelation, we know Jesus Christ, The LORD GOD of Israel. Woe to those who do not know Him and will not obey Him. The same LORD GOD of Israel, who destroyed Pharaoh, and the whole Egyptian army, said in John 3:36: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
