"NOT AFRAID"
Hebrews 11:23

Gene Harmon

"The Holy Spirit of God used these two words in Hebrews 11:23, "not afraid", to refer to the faith He had given to the parents of Moses. Though we know very little about them, this much we do know. Our Sovereign Lord gave them the same faith He gave Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all those who are mentioned in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews. Moses' parents are in pretty good company, wouldn't you say? All of those who live by faith and die in faith are in that same company. Like the parents of Moses, it does not matter if our names are well known. We know very little, maybe nothing, about most of God's elect who go through life with these same two words ascribed to them: "not afraid",! All who are enlightened by the Holy Spirit have a reverential fear of God. We rejoice in Jesus Christ who redeemed us with His own precious blood. We are not trying to build a name for ourselves. We serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the face of worldly opposition. We're "not afraid". "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear (1 John 4:18). Our desire is to exalt the name of Jesus Christ our Lord that others might know Him. Our motive for any thing God is pleased to allow us to do in His kingdom is "faith which worketh by love" (Galatians 5:5). Like the parents of Moses, most people have never even heard our names mentioned. But we rejoice to know that are names were written in Heaven (Luke 10:20). Our Lord Jesus calls each one of us by name, putting us in His company of believers.
