Every true believer should be absolutely overwhelmed with the awesome truth of these words. We are, by the sovereign, creating power of God the Holy Spirit, Partakers of the Divine Nature of God. Under the preaching of His glorious Gospel, God sends the Spirit of His Son into the hearts of His chosen, blood-bought children (Galatians 4:6). We 'have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father' (Romans 8:15). In Colossians 1:27, the Holy Spirit moved the Apostle Paul to write these words: "Christ in you, the hope of glory." Jesus Christ is our ONLY hope!. And God Himself, by the indwelling power of His Spirit, makes this known to us. The unsearchable riches of God's infinite mercy and grace, His perfect righteousness and immutable love, are all found in Christ our Saviour, and ONLY in Christ our Saviour. All of this, and so much more, are ours. If we have Christ in us, we have all the treasures of God in earthen vessels.
But, while we are in this mortal, corrupt body, we still have the old nature to contend with. This old Adamic nature, and the Divine Nature God has put in us, 'are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would' (Galatians 5:17). When will this war end? Not until we are delivered from this body of death (Romans 7:24). God help us to fight the good fight of faith by laying aside 'the sin which doth so easily beset us', running 'with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.' Every time we hear the Gospel preached, Christ in us, the hope of glory, is set before us. For the believer, this is one sure way of keeping the eye of faith on Christ. This is how, by God's grace and His power working in us, we can keep that old man, that old nature, from rearing his ugly head. I encourage you to make sure that you are 'not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard' (Colossians 1:23).
