WAS JESUS CHRIST ANTINOMIAN? LAWLESS?

Gene Harmon

"This question is very important, especially in dealing with those who believe the law of Moses, the Ten Commandments, to be the 'Believer's Rule Of Life'; those who would dare call God's enlightened children antinomian because we do not agree with them. God's children are "Under The Law To Christ" (1 Cor. 9:21). We, God's children, are motivated by love. 'In Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.' 'The law is not of faith' (Gal. 5:6; 3:12). 'The love of Christ constraineth (controls, urges, compels) us' (2 Cor. 5:14).

Brethren, the love God has for His own chosen people was what moved Him to predestinate us unto the adoption of children (Eph. 1:4 - 5). It was God's love for a particular people that moved Him to send His Son to lay down His life for our sins (Jn. 3:16; 1 Jn. 4:9 - 10). God's love is revealed to us by God the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5). This is when our love for God begins. In our natural state we hate God (Rom. 8:7). The new birth brings us under the law of love.

Back to this very important question: Was Jesus Christ Antinomian? Lawless? I ask another question, that will lead up to the answer to the first: What motivated our Sovereign Creator to come to this world, to be obedient unto death, even the death of the cross? Did the law of Moses motivate Him? Or the law of love? If 'love is the fulfilling of the law', and it is (Rom. 13:8 - 10), it was love that motivated our Lord Jesus. A love in His heart for God the Father. A pure love that motivated Him to be obedient unto death. A love in His pure heart for those who were given to Him by God the Father in the covenant of grace. A love for His own that made our Saviour willing to endure the wrath of God as our Substitute. Are there any professing Christians who would be so foolish and cold-hearted to deny that Christ was motivated by love for them? Would anyone dare call Jesus Christ antinomian? If so, I would not want to be walking in their shoes.

Those who 'Are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God' (Rom. 8:14). 'If ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law' (Gal. 5:15). Beloved, here is the 'Believer's Rule of Life' – 'FAITH WHICH WORKETH BY LOVE' (Gal. 5:6). This is the law of Christ that all of God's children LOVE to be under (Jn. 15:9 - 13). Please read Gal. 3:5 - 14, and then answer these questions: What law are you under? Are you antinomian? Lawless?"
