Have you ever wondered why some professing Christians cannot see how certain Old Testament men and Old Testament events picture Christ? It has been said that 'A picture is worth a thousand words!' But to try and show someone a picture while the two of you are in a dark room where there is no light would be like trying to give someone a drink of water with an empty glass. It is just wasted effort. But fill the glass with good, cold water and the person on the receiving end not only will have their thirst quenched, but will also be very thankful.
Many professing Christians have never been delivered from the power of darkness. The true gospel of God's sovereign, amazing grace through Christ alone means nothing to them because they are still sitting in the darkness of their old depraved nature. But when God commands the light to shine out of darkness, the enlightened soul, by the faith that only God can give, will see 'the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ' (2 Cor. 4:6). This miracle, that only God can perform, takes place at God's appointed time in the hearts of His chosen, blood-bought people, under the preaching of His glorious gospel. And those who are made partaker of God's divine nature know that the Bible, from cover to cover, speaks of Jesus Christ their Lord. Show them Christ from the Old Testament and they will not only see a picture of the One they love, but they will thank God for giving them eyes to see.
