What is a witness? One who has seen something; one who has heard something; one who knows something. God the Holy Spirit sees everything, hears everything and knows everything. He, God the Holy Spirit “is a witness to us” (Heb. 10:15). “Us”? Who is that referring to? Not to those who believe lies. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth and He guides God’s children into all truth (John 16:13). God the Holy Spirit “is a witness to us”, those who were “Sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ” (Heb. 10:10), those who were “perfected for ever” by that one offering (Heb. 10:14). It is the ministry of God the Holy Spirit to regenerate those for whom Christ died, and reveal the things of Christ to them (2 Thess. 2:13 & 14; John 16:13 - 15). It is very interesting to note that in the context of God the Holy Spirit being a witness to us, a covenant is referred to; a covenant that the majority of professing Christians not only ignore, but blatantly deny. Why is that? The Holy Spirit is not a witness to them. God the Holy Spirit was there when God the Father chose us in Christ (Eph. 1:3 & 4); He was there when God the Son agreed to the conditions of the covenant (Heb. 13:20); He was there when Jesus Christ met ALL the conditions of the covenant (John 17:1 - 5; John 19:30; Phil. 2:5 - 11). And because Jesus Christ met ALL the conditions of the everlasting covenant, God the Holy Spirit will regenerate all of God’s elect and bring them to Christ (John 6:37 - 40; Eph. 2:1 - 9). “Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin” (Heb. 10:15 - 18). Is God the Holy Spirit a witness to you?
