IS SALVATION the response of the sinner to God's grace, or is it the response of God to the sinner's faith? Both! God is the initiator and giver of grace. If God does not first give you grace and faith, you will never come to Christ. If he does not give you life, you shall never have life. Yet, the Lord God does condescend to our low estate. He responds to the faith he gives. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." That is the command of the gospel. "And thou shalt be saved." That is the promise of the gospel. That is the response of grace to the faith that grace creates. "Come unto me." That is the invitation of Christ. "And I will give you rest." That is the response of Christ to a sinner's faith.
