I had the privilege of having dinner tonight with Pastor John Mitchell. He is a 74 year old pastor in Great Falls, MT. After dinner we sat for some time, just chatting. After reminiscing about many things, he said, "Don, did you ever hear that old saying, – 'That which can be said can always be said; but that which is said can never be unsaid.'"
For me, it was a message from God directly to my heart. How much I have said that I wish could be unsaid! "But that which is said can never be unsaid!" The door is slammed shut. The keys have been thrown away. The pain, the hurt, the harm caused by my passionate, unbridled tongue can never be undone!
Upon hearing those words – "That which can be said can always be said; but that which is said can never be unsaid," – from a wise, old friend, about something he observed many years ago, my heart broke within me. Immediately, I began to cry out, "Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."
I came hear to minister to others; but the Lord has graciously minister to me. May he give me grace to heed the wisdom I have heard. – "That which can be said can always be said; but that which is said can never be unsaid."
