"Only one life, 'twill soon be passed, only what's done for Christ will last." Most of us have heard that religious cliché for years. Here is a vast improvement of that old saying. "Only one life, 'twill soon be passed, only what Christ has done will last."
"Only one life, 'twill soon be passed," is the absolute truth. "Man that is born of a woman is of few days..." (Job 14:1). "What is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away" (James 4:14).
"Only what's done for Christ will last." Be honest. Have you ever done anything that is of lasting value? Our best efforts toward worship and the service of God are tainted by sin. I'll tell you whose works will last -those of the perfect Lamb of God. In heaven's eternal bliss, it will be the joy of the saints to forevermore sing of what Christ has done. "Thou art worthy...for Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood" (Revelation 5:9).
