THE ABUNDANCE OF PEACE

Jim Byrd

"But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace" (Psalm 37:11). How we rejoice in that great peace that God gives to His believing people. [1] We delight ourselves in the peace we have with God through Christ. Our Savior came into this world and satisfied the law of God for everyone of His people. His life was lived in exact conformity to divine requirements and by His death He paid our indebtedness. "Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). [2] We delight ourselves in the peace of knowing that those things which come to pass in this life are governed by our heavenly Father Who is working all things together for His glory and our good. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). [3] We delight ourselves in the peace of knowing that upon the time of death we will enter everlasting glory and see the blessed Savior. We shall be "absent from the body and present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). [4] We delight ourselves in the promise of God that in eternal glory we will dwell in perfect peace forevermore. "And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4).

As real as this peace is, why is it that we sometimes have such a small amount of it in our hearts? The culprit for little peace is little faith and the secret of having a heart that is abundantly at peace is in believing God. " Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost" (Romans 15:13). One writer said "peace comes in at the door of faith." There can be no true peace in the heart of a lost man until the Spirit of grace has brought him to believe on Christ. And, there will be no peace in the heart of a child of God until we lay hold of His promises which in Christ are "yea and amen" (2 Corinthians 1:20).

My prayer for each of us who believe the Savior is that "the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all" (2 Thessalonians 3:13).
