Adam's fall into sin and misery did not catch God Almighty off guard. From old eternity Jehovah made provision for the salvation of a multitude of His fallen race. Christ is, therefore, said to be "The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8). Before there was ever a sinner, there was already an appointed Savior. Before there were ever lawbreakers, God had appointed a Law-Keeper. Before we ever became liable to the curse of the law, there was an Advocate appointed for offenders. Before the first sheep ever went astray, a Shepherd was appointed Who would gather all of His sheep into the fold of salvation. Before we sold ourselves into bondage, God had decreed to redeem us by the blood of the Lamb. Before we became polluted with sin, God decreed a Fountain to be opened for sin and for uncleanness (Zechariah 13:1). Before we ever became spiritually diseased, a great Physician was selected to heal us of all our diseases. Before we became debtors to the law, the Son of God was chosen to come into this world, to keep the law in our stead, and then suffer its just penalty. Before we ever became unrighteous, God had determined that we would "be made the righteousness of God in Christ." "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift" (2 Corinthians 9:15).
