DO YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE?

Jim Byrd

That is the question asked by today's so-called "soul-winners." Did you ever read in the Scriptures that a prophet, an apostle or an evangelist ever posed such a question to their hearers? The natural man does not have a right concept of heaven. Is that not a place of unending worship? There, every eye is upon Christ, every voice sings His praises, and every heart loves Him supremely. In heaven's eternal glory, Jesus Christ is the Object of everyone's attention, but on earth, the unbeliever has no interest nor time for the Son of God. Would a lost man be comfortable in heaven? Would a Christless man be satisfied in the presence of the Savior of sinners, the Savior Whose blood and righteousness he had no concern for? Certainly not, for the inhabitants of heaven are involved in doing what he had no desire to do on earth, they are exalting the Lamb of God!

How different are the desires for heaven between a believer and an unbeliever. Believers value heaven above earth. Like Paul, we had rather "depart and be with Christ, which is far better," than remain in this body of corruption (Philippians 1:23). Admittedly, at times we are disturbed by that word "depart," Paul spoke of, that is, dying, but still, every redeemed sinner is anxious to enter into the glorious presence of that One Who "loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood" (Revelation 1:5). The child of God longs for heaven as a weary traveler longs for home. He desires to see Christ, to be with Christ, and to be like Christ. But to the ungodly, there is nothing more pleasing nor desirable than this world. His roots are sunk in this world, his attachments are to this world, his love is for this world, and his ambitions are all worldly. Given the choice, he would only choose heaven over hell, but he would never choose heaven over earth.
