These verses are a continuation of Daniel's vision in which he saw various kings and kingdoms rise up in power, only to be overcome by other monarchs and nations. He foresaw the time when the worship of God would be all but eliminated within the city of Jerusalem. The days would come when the saints of God would be martyred for the cause of the gospel and false religion would exert herself with great power as it joined forces with anti-christ government. Though the enemies of God and His people be ever so strong, their destruction is certain, and when God destroys them, none will be able to help.
