These verses prophesy of various kings and nations that would rise up, have dominion for awhile, and then be overtaken. In Daniel 10:21, the prophet was assured, "I will show thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth," that is, the book of God's eternal decrees. The Lord sovereignly rules over all the affairs of mankind. He ordained and controls wars, battles, and the rise and fall of nations. In all things, our God is exercising His providence, carrying out His sovereign, eternal decree of predestination. His dealings with the various nations are for the purpose of bringing His elect people unto a saving knowledge of Himself.
