1. The dispatch of an angel, vv. 20-23. The Lord commissioned Gabriel with an answer to Daniel's prayer (vv. 1-19). The prophet was beloved of the Lord, therefore he was sent a message of good news.
2. The declaration of the gospel, vv. 24-27. Daniel's prayer was full of confession of guilt and pleas for mercy. The heavenly preacher told the prophet that in due time Christ would come and fully put away the sins of His people. Because of the substitutionary work of Christ, the justice of the Lord would be honored, sin dealt with and His people redeemed from the curse of the law. Christ would be "cut off," not for any sins of His own, for He was the perfect Son of God. He would be killed for the sins of His people.
