ALL GLORY TO THE LORD OUR GOD

Don Fortner
Tune: 'Tis so Sweet To Trust In Jesus #257 87.87D)

Christ has purchased our salvation,
Dying in His people's stead:
Give all praise and adoration
To our faithful cov'nant Head!

Refrain:
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Saved by grace in Christ we live!
All the glory, all the glory
To the Lord our God we give!

We were lost in sin and fallen,
Ruined, and no help was found;
But when Christ came, (gracious calling!),
Grace did more than sin abound!

Called from death to life in Jesus,
By the Spirit we believe,
Trusting You alone, Lord Jesus,
Full salvation we've received!

Free election, and redemption,
And the Spirit's mighty call,
Faith in Christ and preservation,
Gifts of grace, praise God for all!

(137)

WE'VE GATHERED HERE TODAY

Don Fortner
(Tune: Stand Up and Bless The Lord #33 SM)

We've gathered here today
To worship You our God,
To lift our hearts in faith and praise,
And hear Your blessed Word.

As we attempt to pray,
As we Your praises sing,
Help us, in all we do and say,
To magnify our King!

Father, Your children hear;
Spirit, the Son reveal;
Savior, make known Your presence here;
Teach us Your holy will!

Comfort Your saints and cheer
Each tried and troubled one;
Save sinners by Your mighty grace,
And bring Your lost ones home!

(138)

"FOR WHOM HE DID FOREKNOW"

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues #46 CM)

Foreknown in God's eternal love,
Chosen by grace to be
Joint-heirs with Christ in heav'n above
From all eternity -

Predestined (Wondrous work of grace!)
To be like Christ in love,
That He might have the Firstborn's place
In that fam'ly above -

We, who've been called to life and faith
By God's almighty grace,
Are justified and freed from death!
Praise God, praise God for grace!

Foreknown, predestined, called, and saved,
And fully justified,
In Christ secure, forever safe,
We shall be glorified!

(139)

VAST BEYOND IMAGINATION

Don Fortner
(Tune: More Secure Is No One Ever #300 LM)

Vast beyond imagination
Is the host of God's election:
More than all the sands of oceans,
More than all the stars of heaven.

Here they seem a small assembly,
Weak, and poor, and ever needy;
But when all are brought to heaven,
What a mighty congregation!

Mighty, through the Lamb they conquer!
Lord, let me be in that number!
Fixed in Your predestination,
Savior, grant me your salvation!

(140)

IT IS MY SAVIOR'S BLOOD!

Don Fortner
(Tune: Majestic Sweetness #52 CM)

There is a fountain springing from
The throne of our great God;
All blessings of God's grace it brings -
It is my Savior's blood!

There is a price that paid my debt
And satisfied my God,
By which I'm justified and freed -
It is my Savior's blood!

There is a stream, a cleansing stream,
An infinite, great flood,
In which my sins are washed away -
It is my Savior's blood!

There is a voice that speaks for me
Before the throne of God,
A great, effectual, constant plea -
It is my Savior's blood!

There is a theme that thrills my heart
And makes me love my God,
For it reveals His love to me -
It is my Savior's blood!

(141)

Don Fortner
(Tune: When I Survey #118 LM)

Stretched on the cross, Christ Jesus died,
For guilty sinners crucified;
From His dear hands, His feet, His side,
Flowed forth the saving, crimson tide!

That saving stream from Cal'vry flows
To save and cleanse His rebel foes;
Though we deserve God's endless wrath,
Christ Jesus took our place in death!

He passed the fallen angels by,
But came for chosen men to die;
Christ took our sins, He took our place,
He died for us - Amazing grace!

Behold the scene of pain and woe;
God's justice, grace and wisdom know:
God found a way to save His own -
He sacrificed His darling Son!

(142)

HERE'S MY LIFE, MY LORD CONTROL IT

Don Fortner
(Tune: Jesus, I my Cross Have Taken #390 87.87D)

Son of God, almighty Savior,
My Redeemer and my God,
Fount of every grace and favor,
You have bought me with Your blood.
Gladly, Lord, I now surrender,
Bowing to Your sov'reign throne;
Rule Your servant, gracious Master,
I am Yours, my Lord, alone.

Family, friends and all possessions
I lay down before the cross;
For Your grace and free salvation,
Earthly gain I count but loss.
Here's my life, my Lord, control it;
I would lose it to Your will;
There's no other way to save it -
Savior, rule me as You will.

(143)

PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL OF GOD'S GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: The Son Of God Goes Forth to War #412 CMD)

Proclaim the gospel of God's grace
By every means at hand;
Publish good news to Adam's race,
Sinners in every land.

Refrain: God sent His Son, His darling Son,
For sin to give His blood;
And all who trust His Son alone
Are reconciled to God.

Pray that the Lord will open doors;
And let us faithful be
To do the work He gives to us
That fallen men may see -

God will His chosen, ransomed ones
Save by almighty grace,
As we preach Jesus Christ, His Son,
And His great work of grace.

(144)

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Don Fortner
(Tune: To God Be The Glory #449 65.65.D)

To God be the glory, great things He has done!
He chose us in Jesus 'er time had begun.
He purposed to save us to glorify Him,
And to make us blameless and holy in Him.

Before we were fallen in sin and undone,
God's purpose was finished, and slain was His Son,
The cov'nant established, the blessings bestowed,
When Christ, as our Sur'ty, struck hands with our God!

We trace to election the blessings of grace,
Redemption, and calling, and eternal peace.
And we prove our int'rest in covenant love
By faith in our Savior, the gift of God's love!

(145)

A MONUMENT OF SOVEREIGN GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: Jesus, And Shall It Ever Be #400 LM)

A monument of sov'reign grace,
A sinner saved by Christ's shed blood,
The streams of mercy, love, and grace,
I trace back to their fountain - God.

Loved with an everlasting love,
Chosen in Christ ere time began,
God fixed my place in heav'n above,
And then began to work His plan.

He made a cov'nant with His Son,
And blessed me with that multitude
For whom the Lamb of God would come
To live and die a Substitute.

A time of love was set for me,
When God the Holy Ghost would come,
Give life, and faith, and liberty,
And seal me for my final home.

A monument of sovereign grace,
A sinner saved by Christ's shed blood,
My God, the triune God, I praise,
And glory only in the Lord.

(146)

TO GOD THE FATHER PRAY

Don Fortner
(Tune: Blest Be The Tie # 187 SM)

To God the Father pray,
The Giver of all good,
The holy, wise, the just, the true,
Let all men call on God.

To God the Son give prayer,
Who bought us with His blood.
Let sinners bow to Christ and pray,
For Jesus Christ is God!

To God the Spirit pray,
The seal of cov'nant grace.
Sweet Comforter, we call on You,
To keep our hearts in peace.

To God, the triune God,
We offer prayer and praise,
For God, the triune God, we know
Has wrought in us His grace!

(147)

WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE!

Don Fortner
(Tune: There Is A Fountain #222 CM)

Faith is the substance of the things
Hoped for through God's free grace,
The substance of the heritage
Of an elected race.

Faith is the evidence of things
As yet unseen by us -
Election, redemption, and life
By grace in Christ Jesus.

Faith is the gift and fruit of grace,
The proof of adoption.
We thank You, God, for faith in Christ,
Bestowed on us, Your sons!

We take You at Your word and know
We have eternal life.
Believing Jesus Christ our Lord,
We have eternal life!

(148)

SAVIOR, HEAR MY SUPPLICATION

Don Fortner
(Tune:Praise The Lord!Ye Heavens Adore Him #29 87.87.D)

Savior, hear my supplication
As I bow before Your throne,
Hear my sad, heartfelt confession -
I'm a sinner, lost, undone!
Though God's law justly condemns me,
Though I have no righteousness,
If You will, Lord, You can save me
By Your mighty, sovereign grace.

Here I am, a helpless sinner,
Trusting Your free grace alone.
Be to me the great Redeemer,
Tell me that my sins are gone.
Say to me, "I'm thy Salvation."
Speak to me those words of peace.
Exercise Your great dominion -
Let me live to show Your praise.

My soul, hear the word of mercy,
Coming from the throne of God -
"I will keep for Him my mercy,
I will be to you a God!"
Jesus' blood is speaking pardon
At the mercy-seat of God;
And I know I am forgiven
Trusting Jesus Christ the Lord!

(149)

ARISE, MY SOUL, BE GONE ALL FEARS

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues #46 CM).

Arise, my soul, be gone all fears,
I am a child of God!
Lean hard upon His mighty arm
He is the faithful Lord.

Though troubles overwhelm my soul
And break my heart with pain,
My God is my Defender still -
He will my cause maintain!

The way is rough, the tempter strong,
And I am weak and frail;
But Jesus is my Refuge, and
His strength will never fail.

Though earthly joys all flee away
And sorrows multiply,
Yet, Christ the Lord my Portion is -
He will my needs supply!

The Spirit is my Comforter,
The Seal of covenant grace.
He seals to me the love of God
And floods my soul with grace.

With such a God, and Savior, and
With such a Comforter,
"Arise, my soul," I say," Arise,
Arise, be of good cheer!"

(150)

O SING UNTO THE LORD

Don Fortner
(Tune: Stand Up And Bless The Lord #33 SM)

O sing unto the Lord!
His glory tell abroad!
Proclaim to all who hear your voice
The honors of our God.

God reigns upon His throne,
The sovereign Lord of all.
All things in heaven, earth, and hell,
Yield to His firm control.

Sinners redeemed by blood
And saved by sovereign grace,
Extol the name of our great God
And give the Lord His praise.

Give glory to the Lord
For mercy, love, and grace,
Give God the glory due His name,
All sinners saved by grace.

(151)

GREAT GOD, ARISE AND SEND

Don Fortner
(Tune: Come, We That Love The Lord #23 SM)

Great God, arise and send
Your Word to us in power,
Stretch forth Your mighty, saving arm,
The dead awake this hour.

Lord Jesus, show Yourself
And let us know Your grace,
Enable us to worship You,
And magnify Your grace.

O Holy Spirit, come,
Illuminate our hearts,
The glories of our Savior show,
And grace to us impart.

Sinners, believe and live!
All saints, rejoice and sing!
The gospel hear with reverence now,
And worship Christ your King.

(152)

PICTURES OF GOD'S GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues #46 CM)

When Adam in the garden fell
And ruined all our race
God sought the fallen sinner out,
A picture of His grace.

When God destroyed the world by flood
He yet showed forth His grace:
Noah was called into the ark,
A picture of God's grace.

Ezekiel saw a wretched child,
Dead in a wilderness,
But it was raised to life again,
A picture of God's grace.

The valley of dry bones he saw.
What could be more helpless?
But when God's Spirit came they lived,
A picture of His grace.

Hosea loved a woman vile,
A fallen, common wretch!
But Gomer's heart he won at last,
A picture of God's grace.

These pictures God has given you
Of His amazing grace,
That you might trust His Son and be
A picture of God's grace!

(153)

LAW AND GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: My Faith Has Found A Resting Place #228 CMD)

The law demands we pay our debt
And satisfy its claims.
But grace reveals our Savior's blood,
And pardon full proclaims.

Refrain:
The yoke of law we will not take,
We're free-born sons of God.
Constrained by love and faith alone,
We live unto the Lord.

The law provokes the rebel's heart,
And hardens men in sin.
But grace reveals our Substitute,
And melts the hearts of men.

The law tells us what we must do,
And threatens us with death.
But grace proclaims what Christ has done,
And frees us from all wrath.

The law was made for rebel slaves,
Who hate their Master's voice.
But grace has made us sons of God,
Who love and serve by choice.

(154)

CURSED IS THE MAN, FOREVER CURSED

Don Fortner
(Tune: It Came Upon The Midnight Clear #90 CMD)

Cursed is the man, forever cursed,
Who lives beneath the law:
For it demands a perfect life,
Without the slightest flaw.
Darkness and wrath from Sinai roar
The thund'rous threat of death.
But Christ has silenced Sinai's curse
By His atoning death.

Pardon, and peace, and grace, and love,
I see in Jesus' blood,
Eternal life and glory too,
Bought by our bleeding God.
Our Savior, with His dying breath,
Prayed, "Father, now forgive!"
His bleeding wounds enforced His plea,
And ransomed sinners live!

Now, if you dare, look to the law,
And seek salvation there.
Try as you might, perish you must,
In gloom and dark despair.
I'll take my place beneath the cross.
At Jesus' feet I'll lie.
The flaming sword of justice there
Will surely pass me by!

(155)

THE LAW'S DREAD CURSE NO MORE I FEAR

Don Fortner
(Tune: Higher Ground #308 LMD)

Helpless, before God's law I stand.
I've broken all its' ten commands.
Justice might well put me to death,
For I deserve eternal wrath.
Before God's law my righteousness
Withers, consumed, like burning grass.
The law is holy, just, and good.
But it cannot bring me to God.

Yet, there is hope for sinners still.
Christ Jesus has the law fulfilled.
His life of perfect holiness,
For me, established righteousness.
Then, in this sinner's place, He died,
That justice might be satisfied.
Justice demands the law release
This chosen, ransomed son of grace.

The law's dread curse no more I fear.
Christ's robe of righteousnes I wear.
My sins are all expunged by blood.
And I am reconciled to God!
Now, sinners, hear the gospel's plan:
There's but one hope for fallen man.
You must forget the works you've done
And trust the work of Christ alone.

(156)

CHRIST ANSWERS THE LAW'S COMMANDS

Don Fortner
(Tune: I heard The Voice of Jesus Say #125 CMD)

By faith in Christ sinners fulfill
The law's perfect demands.
Christ's blood and righteousness alone
Answer the law's commands.
Christ lived and died for His elect,
And we were all in Him.
All that He did, He did for us,
And we all did in Him.

The law demands that we love God,
With all our heart and soul,
And love our neighbors as ourselves,
Or suffer wrath untold.
And, if we could, we surely would,
But we know we cannot.
So we will trust our Substitute,
Who did what we could not.

The law demands the sinner's death
To satisfy its claims.
Behold the Surety crucified
In His dear people's names.
God's law requires a perfect life
To fulfill righteousness.
We have it in our Substitute,
The Lord our Righteousness.

The law speaks of a sabbath rest,
And we fulfill that too.
Lord, we have ceased our legal works,
And find our rest in You.
Now keep us, Lord, forever free
Of legal works and fear.
Trusting the work of Christ alone,
Our hearts are filled with cheer.

(157)

SING, REJOICE, ADMIRE AND WONDER

Don Fortner
(TUNE: LOVE DIVINE #2 87.87.D)

Sing, rejoice, admire and wonder,
Christ, the Son of God, adore!
He has silenced Sinai's thunder
By His precious blood outpoured!
Sing, though satan, roaring, tempts you,
Though you're weak and full of sin;
Since Christ Jesus has redeemed you
God has blotted out your sin!

Sing, rejoice in your salvation
By the Spirit's mighty call!
Faith is proof of your election;
God has saved you from the fall!
Sing, for who can now condemn you?
Who can charge you now with sin?
It is God who justifies you!
Christ has washed away your sin!

Sing, for you shall never perish,
Kept secure by God's own hand;
God His own will ever cherish;
None can tear you from His hand!
Sing, for you shall heaven inherit,
Saved by sovereign grace alone;
Not by your free-will, or merit,
But by sovereign grace alone!

(158)

THE MORE I KNOW OF CHRIST, MY LORD

Don Fortner
(Tune: Sweet Hour Of Prayer #361 LM)

The more I know of Christ, my Lord,
The more I see my need of Him;
There's nothing in my flesh that's good;
My only hope is Christ the Lamb.
Nothing I do, or say, or feel
Can recommend my soul to God;
My very best is sinful still
And must be cleansed in Jesus' blood.

If I should grow in faith, I know
My faith is but the gift of grace;
Should I some love to others show,
To Christ alone that love I trace.
If I could nearer get to God
And truly worship at His throne,
I'd plead the merits of Christ's blood
And all that He for me has done.

Lord Jesus, Savior, I confess
My utter, wretched sinfulness;
I have no hope, I have no peace,
But through Your blood and righteousness!
Upon the footing of Your blood
And Your imputed righteousness
I stand accepted with my God,
A sinner saved by sovereign grace!

(159)

CHOSEN, REDEEMED, SOUGHT OUT I AM

Don Fortner
(Tune: Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone? #342 CM)

Chosen, redeemed, sought out I am,
And saved by sovereign grace,
In Christ complete, I lift my voice,
The triune God to praise!

My Father chose me by His grace
Before He made the world,
Adopted and predestined me
To be His holy child.

Christ Jesus shed His precious blood
Upon the cursed tree;
My Substitute has satisfied
The law of God for me.

The Spirit, by almighty grace,
Awakened me from death,
Revealing Christ, He brought me life
And gave this sinner faith.

Chosen, redeemed, sought out I am,
And saved by sovereign grace,
In Christ complete, I lift my voice
The triune God to praise!

(160)

WE EXTOL YOU, OUR GREAT GOD

Don Fortner
(TUNE: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE #393 77.77)

Visit us, our gracious God,
While we worship at Your throne;
We would now exalt Your name
For the works which You have done.

In creation faith beholds
Our almighty Maker's hand;
All things from nothing were made
By the word of Your command.

In Your wondrous providence
We behold Your goodness, Lord,
Ruling all the world's events
To fulfill Your sacred Word.

In redemption, Lord, we see
All Your goodness on display:
Righteousness, justice and truth,
Love, and grace, and mercy free.

Great Creator, sovereign Lord,
Savior of the chosen hosts,
We extol You, our great God,
Father, Son and Holy Ghost!

(161)

WORSHIP

Don Fortner
(Tune: Blest Be The Tie #187 SM)

Christ Jesus, dearest Lord,
Our joy and our delight,
Speak to us by Your mighty Word,
And shed on us Your light.

Reveal Your smiling face,
Remove our fears and doubts:
Arise, O Sun of Righteousness,
And scatter all our clouds.

Revive us with Your grace;
Instruct us by Your Word;
Arm us for trials that we must face,
While living in this world.

Lord, we would worship You,
While gathered in this place,
And hope in heav'n to worship You,
Our Savior, face to face.

(162)

GLORY TO GOD WHO REIGNS ABOVE

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing #46 CM)

Glory to God who reigns above,
The mighty Three-In-One,
For all the wonders of His love
And all the grace He's shown!

Glory to God the Father give
For His electing grace,
Who chose us from eternity
To glorify His grace.

Glory to God the Son who died
Upon the cursed tree,
Whose blood from sin, and death, and hell
Forever set us free!

Glory to God the Spirit pay
For His almighty power,
Who raised us up from death to life
At the appointed hour.

Glory to God who reigns above,
The mighty Three-In-One,
For all the wonders of His love
And all the grace He's shown!

(163)

TELL ME I AM BORN OF GOD

Don Fortner
(Tune: Brethren, We Have Met To Worship #15 87.87.D)

Jesus, Advocate for sinners,
All my hope is in Your blood;
Speak the word of full forgiveness,
Tell me I am born of God.

Refrain:
Tell me, "There's no condemnation!"
Tell me by Your Holy Word.
Tell me, let me hear it often,
Tell me I am born of God.

Send Your Spirit, blessed Jesus,
To apply Your precious blood;
Ease me of the guilt of conscience,
Tell me I am born of God.

Prince of Peace, give me assurance
Of my interest in Your blood;
Drive away my fear and doubting,
Tell me I am born of God.

(164)

GRACE THAT CANNOT FAIL

Don Fortner
(Tune: The Son Of God Goes Forth To War #412 CMD)

Astonished and by sin distressed,
A wretched worm unclean!
My heart's the source of every vice,
The seat of every sin!
Justice had seized my wretched soul,
I was condemned to die!
My just, eternal ruin I saw:
A sinner, I must die!

But then I heard the gospel sound,
How Christ for sinners died,
How God in Christ a ransom found
And justice satisfied!
The spirit gave me faith, and I
Believe the blessed Word.
I see my Savior crucified,
I'm pardoned by His blood!

Hail! Sovereign grace so rich and free,
That first devised the plan
To save a sinful wretch like me,
And carried out the plan!
Effectual grace! Effectual blood!
Grace that can never fail!
I praise You, my great, saving God,
For grace that cannot fail.

(165)

WE TO WORSHIP GOD, ALMIGHTY

Don Fortner
(Tune: Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken #185 87.87.D)

We to worship God, almighty,
Gather here in Jesus' name.
Knowing that our God is worthy,
Let us now extol His name.
Praise the Father, Son, and Spirit:
Praise the mighty Three in One!
Lift your hearts, all ransomed sinners,
Worship God through Christ the Son!

Holy Spirit, come upon us,
Sanctify our hearts this hour.
Father, now through Christ accept us,
Show us all Your grace and power.
Let our songs, and prayers, and giving
Rise from hearts of love and faith,
To the honor of our Savior,
Who delivered us from death.

God, Your Word send forth with power
To awaken sinners dead.
Build Your church, fulfil Your covenant,
Magnify the church's Head!
Sinners hear the word of mercy,
Trust the blessed Son of God.
Christ alone can cleanse and save you,
By the merit of His blood.

(166)

SEE THE SAVIOR FULL OF GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing #93 77.77.77)

See the Savior full of grace
Come to earth, the Prince of Peace.
He of whom the prophets spoke
Came as Man in flesh and blood.
Though the world no beauty sees,
Neither form, nor comeliness,
There's a people taught by grace -
We know who Immanuel is.
God, almighty God is He,
God in our humanity!

Though the world accounts Him base,
We see mercy in His face.
Prostrate at His feet we fall,
And own Him the Lord of all!
Christ's obedience and His blood
Reconciled us to our God.
Jesus, Savior, Prince of Peace,
Full of truth and full of grace,
Reign o'er us by mighty grace
`Till in heav'n we see Your face!

(167)

I FIND MY REST AND PEACE IN HIM

Don Fortner
(Tune: My Soul, Be On Thy Guard #405 SM)

In Christ I now believe
And through His blood I am
Forgiven of my sin and saved;
I am complete in Him!

My sins my God declares,
Are blotted out and gone;
No condemnation shall I fear!
God sees me in His Son!

This fact my soul uplifts,
Though often in distress,
In Christ I am forever blest,
And in Him I will rest.

Christ has my soul redeemed;
He'll always do me good;
I will be quiet, I'll trust in Him
Who bought me with His blood.

Whatever He may send;
It will be for my good;
I find my rest and peace in Him,
My Savior and my God.

(168)

WE'VE COME TO WORSHIP YOU OUR GOD

Don Fortner
(Tune: The Doxology LM)

We've come to worship You, our God,
Sinners redeemed by Christ's shed blood,
To hear the gospel of Your grace
And from our hearts sing forth Your praise.

O Lord, come down in mighty pow'r,
With Your Spirit fill us this hour!
Speak through Your servant once again,
Or else our worship is in vain!

Helpless, we look to You, our God;
Reveal our Savior through Your Word;
Open our hearts; pour in Your grace;
Drive out the world, fill us with praise.

(169)

HOLY SPIRIT, COMFORTER

Don Fortner
(Tune: Take My Life and Let It Be #393 77.77)

Holy Spirit, Comforter,
Come, reveal the things of Christ;
Drive away all cares and fear;
Set our hearts alone on Christ.

Show us how depraved we are,
And all that Christ came to do;
Spirit, come, convict of sin,
Righteousness and judgment too.

Show some tokens of God's grace
In His Son freely given;
Shed abroad the blessed peace
Of free grace, forgiven sin.

Earnest of our Savior's love,
Pledge of glory yet to come,
Keep us by almighty grace,
`Til we reach our heav'nly home.

(170)

O HOLY SPIRIT, HEAR OUR PRAYER

Don Fortner
( Tune: When I Survey #118 LM)

O Holy Spirit, hear our prayer:
Descend in grace, with saving power;
Convict, awaken and give faith
To helpless sinners born in death.

No other power can bring down
From God the Father and the Son
The blessings of eternal grace,
Forgiveness, peace and righteousness.

O Holy Spirit, shed Your light
Into our hearts, dispel our night;
Reveal Christ Jesus, our dear Lord
As God's servant proclaims His Word.

Invade our hearts and work within;
Subdue our vile, indwelling sin;
More of our Savior let us know;
Make us in faith and grace to grow.
