CHRIST JESUS, THE GOD MAN

Don Fortner
(Tune: Soldiers of Christ, Arise #403 SMD)

Great God, incarnate Son,
The everliving One,
One with the Father on His throne,
Yet, with Your people one!
Jehovah, our great God,
And Jesus, perfect Man,
We worship You, we trust Your blood,
Our God, the saving Man!

The mystery is great,
How God a Man became,
How God has died and paid our debt,
And yet remains the same!
Our faith the wonder sees,
And finds all comfort here,
The God-Man died upon the tree,
And now in heaven appears!

Our Mediator reigns
Upon the throne of grace.
Upon His heart He bears our names,
And claims in heaven our place.
The God who rules all things
Is Christ the perfect Man!
Adore, my heart, this King of kings,
Christ Jesus, the God-Man!

(52)

BEHOLD THE CHRIST OF GOD AND SEE

Don Fortner
(Tune: The Doxology LM)

Behold the Christ of God and see
The glory of the Godhead Three,
The Father, Spirit, and the Son
Revealed in the incarnate One.

The fulness of the Godhead dwells
In Him who ransomed us from hell.
We know the mighty God above
Through our Redeemer's work of love.

Great, holy, sovereign, just, and true,
God's merciful and gracious too!
In justice He has slain His Son
That He might save His chosen ones!

In Christ, the Mediator man,
God has fulfilled salvation's plan.
He magnified His holy law,
Yet saves His people from the fall!

(53)

SAVIOR DIVINE, WE KNOW YOUR NAME

Don Fortner
(Tune: When I Can Read My Title Clear #497 CM)

Savior divine, we know Your name,
It is Immanuel:
God in the flesh is God with us!
Our hearts with gladness swell.

Immanuel is Jesus Christ,
The woman's chosen Seed,
The Son of God, the Son of Man,
Who meets our every need.

Immanuel obeyed the law,
And then for sinner's died.
God smells the savor of His work,
And He is satisfied!

Immanuel in victory rose
Triumphant o'er the grave,
Ascended to His sovereign throne,
His ransomed ones to save.

Immanuel, our Savior God,
We bow before His throne.
We will rejoice. Christ is our God!
And we with Him are one!

OFT I SIN AGAINST MY SAVIOR

Don Fortner
(Tune: Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus! #145 87.87.D)

Oft I sin against my Savior,
Often do the things I hate.
Though I struggle and despise it,
Sin is in my members yet.
If I pray, my sin is present
To defile my warmest plea.
If I try to read or worship,
Still this monster lives in me.

Can a person be a christian
Who is such a sinful wretch,
One whose every thought and action
Is so full of wickedness?
This I know - If my assurance
Depends on my holiness,
Or on my righteous attainments,
Then I'm lost in hopelessness.

But my hope is in Another
And the work which He has done.
I trust Jesus Christ my Savior,
While my sinfulness I own.
Christ alone is my salvation
And my full assurance too.
In the teeth of my transgressions,
Blessed Savior, I trust You!

(55)

ALMIGHTY GOD, FOR GRACE WE PRAY

Don Fortner
(Tune: The Doxology LM)

Almighty God, for grace we pray,
Attend our gath'ring here today;
We've come to worship at Your throne
Through Christ, Your well beloved Son.

Your Holy Spirit send this hour
And fill Your servant with His pow'r;
Leave not Your messenger alone,
But give him grace to preach Your Son.

Our hearts remove from earthly care
And fill with grace, and praise, and prayer;
Reveal Your Son, expose our sin,
And turn our hearts in faith to Him.

(56)

THE LORD IS FAITHFUL STILL

Don Fortner
(Tune: Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone? #342 CM)

Though satan rage against my soul
And sorrows my cup fill,
One hope, one precious hope, I have -
The Lord is faithful still!

God will perform His solemn oath,
His cov'nant grace fulfil,
His promises are all secure -
The Lord is faithful still!

My soul, from care and trouble cease,
And trust your Father's will;
He ever knows and does what's best -
The Lord is faithful still!

Be of good cheer, rejoice and sing,
Amid all earthly ill;
The Lord is near, and all is well -
The Lord is faithful still!

(57)

BEHOLD CHRIST'S BLOOD UPON THE THRONE

Don Fortner
(Tune: Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness #217 LM)

Jesus is our Redeemer's name
To save us from our sins He came;
The Son of God, the Lord of life,
Became a man to give us life.

For sinners He was crucified,
And by His blood we're justified;
Redemption's work was fully done
When God for sinners killed His Son.

Behold Christ's blood upon the throne,
And know that all your sins are gone!
God's wrath on His dear Son was laid;
And justice owns the ransom paid!

If you can trust the Son of God,
For You He shed His precious blood
Faith is the evidence to you
That all He did, He did for you.

(58)

SPIRIT OF GOD, UNITE OUR HEARTS

Don Fortner
(Tune: Am I A Soldier Of The Cross #414 CM)

Spirit of God, unite our hearts
To glorify our God;
Let us in love each other serve
As the fam'ly of God.

When satan sows the seeds of strife,
Lord, give us special grace
To put away all petty strife
And keep the bond of peace.

By this shall all men know, indeed,
We are the sons of God,
When grace and love unite our hearts
To glorify our God.

(59)

BLEST IS THE FELLOWSHIP

Don Fortner
(Tune: Come, We That Love The Lord #23 SM)

Blest is the fellowship
Of saints in Christ the Lord,
One holy family of grace,
All serving one great God.

We're one before the Lord,
Chosen before all worlds,
Redeemed by Jesus' precious blood,
And by the Spirit called.

We all one Father have,
And one inheritance;
We're pressing to one final home,
With Christ our sov'reign Prince.

So let us now be one
In purpose, faith and love.
Avoiding strife, promoting peace,
Let us each other love.

(60)

PRAISE GOD! PRAISE GOD FOR GRACE!

Don Fortner
(Tune: Stand Up and bless the Lord #33 SM)

Great God of sov'reign grace,
From whom all things have come,
Father of an elected race,
We bow before Your throne.

Lord Jesus, Son of God,
Redeemer, Savior, Friend,
We thank You for effectual blood,
That cleanses us from sin.

Spirit of God, to You
We trace our life and faith:
By grace that we could not resist
You raised us from our death.

We praise the triune God
For all His saving grace:
Without our aide He has saved us!
Praise God! Praise God for grace!

(61)

SINNERS, COME TO CHRIST BELIEVING

Don Fortner
(Tune: Glorious Things Of The Are Spoken #185 87.87.D)

Sinners, come to Christ believing;
He alone can save the lost;
He is able, He is willing,
Christ saves to the uttermost!
Without Jesus, you will perish,
You will suffer endless death;
Tremble now, offended justice,
Seeks to slay the child of wrath!

Yet, behold, the way is open!
See the Refuge for the lost -
Christ, with His own blood in heaven,
Pleads the merits of His cross:
"Father, here's the price of ransom,
See the merits of my blood.
You can now justly forgive them
Who, believing, come to God."

Come to God and sue for mercy
Through the merits of His Son;
Never has a sinner guilty
Not his suit for mercy won!
God the Father will receive you
Through the blood of Christ His Son,
As the Holy Spirit draws you,
Come to Christ, O sinner, come!

(62)

BLESSED SAVIOR, FAITHFUL FRIEND

Don Fortner
(Tune: Come, Thou Fount #17 87.87.D)

Savior, by Your blood You bought us
From the holy law of God;
By Your sov'reign grace You freed us
From our sin's bondage and load.
We are Yours, You bought and saved us,
Blessed Savior, Faithful Friend!
Lead and feed, keep and protect us
'Til we reach our journey's end.

By Your Spirit's grace You've kept us
Through temptations great and long;
We know not what lies before us,
But we trust our Savior strong.
Through the valley dark and cheerless,
Where our destined paths may go,
May Your presence make us fearless
In the face of every foe.

When we hunger, You will feed us,
Daily manna will be found;
Faint and thirsting, You will hear us,
Steams of water will abound.
When our pilgrimage is finished
And we've reached our journey's end,
Then with songs, perfect and endless,
We'll praise You, our Savior, Friend!

(63)

FATHER, FILL YOUR CHOSEN SERVANT

Don Fortner
(Tune: Come, Thou Fount #17 87.87.D)

Father, fill Your chosen servant,
As he stands Your Word to preach;
Fill him with the Holy Spirit,
That his words our hearts may reach.
Feed Your thirsty, hungry children
With the living Word of God;
Bathe our souls, refresh our spirits,
And revive our hearts, our God.

Here are sinners lost and helpless,
Dead in trespasses and sin;
Will You give them faith in Jesus?
Save them from their death and sin!
Send Your Spirit to those chosen
And redeemed by Jesus' blood;
Grant them faith and make them willing
To be reconciled to God.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
Make Your holy presence known;
May Your love, and grace, and mercy
To us sinners now be shown.
Sweetly now reveal Your glory,
Fix our hearts on You alone,
While we sing and tell the story
Of what God by grace has done.

(64)

IN EVERLASTING LOVE AND GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues #46 CM)

In everlasting love and grace
God chose His own elect;
Our names inscribed in His great book,
He never can forget.

He chose His people in His Son,
To be His holy bride;
Christ took us for His own and He
Agreed for us to die!

He saw us ruined by the fall
In sin and deep distress;
Yet, He would not forget or change
His great designs of grace!

When in the fulness of the time
Christ Jesus came to save,
For us he brought in righteousness,
For us His life He gave!

He took our debts to be His own!
For us He was made sin!
He fought and conquered all our foes,
And we shall reign with Him!

(65)

IMMANUEL, WHAT POWERS DWELL

Don Fortner
(Tune: When I Can Read My Title Clear #497 CM)

Did Christ, the holy Son of God,
The Sovereign of the skies,
Become a man of flesh and blood
That I to God might rise?

Though rich in glory, Christ became
A man of poverty,
That He might bear my sin and blame,
To bleed and die for me!

He took this guilty sinner's place,
And suffered in my stead;
For me, (Stupendous, matchless grace!)
His precious blood was shed!

Immanuel, what powers dwell
In Your redeeming blood!
It ransomed my poor soul from hell
And turns my heart to God!

(66)

HIS COV'NANT STANDS THE SAME

Don Fortner
(Tune: Soldiers of Christ, Arise 403 SMD)

Chosen by sov'reign grace
To be the sons of God,
We were from all eternity
Accepted through the blood!
Though born children of wrath,
Like all, in death and sin,
Our Father looked on us in Christ
Eternally as clean.

In cov'nant grace of old
The sons of God were blessed,
Blessed with all God requires and gives,
In Christ forever blessed!
That cov'nant God will keep;
Those blessings cannot fail;
Whether we're strong, tempted, or weak,
God's cov'nant shall not fail!

Though satan roars and sins
Accusing peace assail,
My hope is in my Surety
Seated within the vail.
Here rest, my weary soul,
Trusting the Savior's name,
God will not charge His own with sin!
His cov'nant stands the same!

(67)

THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD REVEALED

Don Fortner
(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues #46 CM)

O LOVE, amazing love, so free,
That formed the wondrous plan,
To show forth all God's attributes
And save rebellious man!
In the cov'nant God's WISDOM shines
And His JUSTICE maintains
The RIGHTEOUSNESS and TRUTH of God,
While MERCY freely reigns.

Yes, MERCY reigns and JUSTICE, too;
In Jesus Christ they meet:
He satisfied God's JUSTICE and
He is our MERCY-SEAT!
These are the wonders of our God
And His amazing GRACE,
By which He saves His chosen ones
From Adam's fallen race.

(68)

THE COVENANT OF GOD'S GRACE IS MINE

Don Fortner
(Tune: When I Can Read My Title Clear #497 CM)

The cov'nant of God's grace is mine
And every promise sure,
All flowing from eternal love
And by God's oath secure.

Before the earth's foundations were
By God, my Father, laid,
Accepted and forever blessed
I stood in Christ my Head.

That cov'nant ratified by blood
And by God's Spirit sealed
Shall yet, in heaven's glory, be
By grace in me fulfilled!

(69)

WE OFFER YOU OUR PRAISE

Don Fortner
(Tune: I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say #225 CMD)

Great God, Creator of all things,
And our Redeemer, too,
Provider and Protector, we
Have come to worship You.
Saved by Your grace, kept by Your pow'r
Our heart and voice we raise,
With faith, and gratitude, and love,
We offer You our praise!

(70)

FATHER, FILL YOUR CHOSEN SERVANT

Don Fortner
(Tune: Come, Thou Fount #17 87.87.D)

Father, fill Your chosen servant,
As he stands Your Word to preach;
Fill him with the Holy Spirit,
That his words our hearts may reach.
Feed Your thirsty, hungry children

(73)

TO GOD THE FATHER PRAY

Don Fortner
(Tune: Blest Be The Tie # 187 SM)

To God the Father pray,
The Giver of all good,
The holy, wise, the just, the true,
Let all men call on God.

To God the Son give prayer,
Who bought us with His blood.
Let sinners bow to Christ and pray,
For Jesus Christ is God!

To God the Spirit pray,
The seal of cov'nant grace.
Sweet Comforter, we call on You,
To keep our hearts in peace.

To God, the triune God,
We offer prayer and praise,
For God, the triune God, we know
Has wrought in us His grace!

(74)

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Don Fortner
(Tune: To God Be The Glory #449 65.65.D)
To God be the glory, great things He has done!
He chose us in Jesus 'er time had begun.
He purposed to save us to glorify Him,
And to make us blameless and holy in Him.

Before we were fallen in sin and undone,
God's purpose was finished, and slain was His Son,
The cov'nant established, the blessings bestowed,
When Christ, as our Sur'ty, struck hands with our God!

We trace to election the blessings of grace,
Redemption, and calling, and eternal peace.
And we prove our int'rest in covenant love
By faith in our Savior, the gift of God's love!

(75)

A MONUMENT OF SOVEREIGN GRACE

Don Fortner
(Tune: Jesus, And Shall It Ever Be #400 LM)

A monument of sov'reign grace,
A sinner saved by Christ's shed blood,
The streams of mercy, love, and grace,
I trace back to their fountain - God.

Loved with an everlasting love,
Chosen in Christ ere time began,
God fixed my place in heav'n above,
And then began to work His plan.

He made a cov'nant with His Son,
And blessed me with that multitude
For whom the Lamb of God would come
To live and die a Substitute.

A time of love was set for me,
When God the Holy Ghost would come,
Give life, and faith, and liberty,
And seal me for my final home.

A monument of sovereign grace,
A sinner saved by Christ's shed blood,
My God, the triune God, I praise,
And glory only in the Lord.
