Are you interested in the future? Do you want to know what is going to happen when this world finally comes to an end? Would you be interested in knowing exactly how things are going to turn out in the end? The Bible, the Word of God plainly gives us the answer to those questions. Here are three things which will most assuredly come to pass.
1. THE LORD OUR GOD WILL BE HONORED, GLORIFIED, AND PRAISED BY ALL THINGS.
I do not know how it will be accomplished, but I do know that all men, all events, all angels, and all creatures, both good and evil, shall in the last day show forth the praise, honor, and glory of the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Listen to what the Apostle Paul declares. "God worketh all things after the counsel of his own will...to the praise of his glory" (Eph, 1:11-12). "For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever" (Rom. 11:36). All things are OF GOD, AS TO THEIR ORIGINAL SOURCE. God is the original source and cause of all things. All things come to pass according to God's eternal will and purpose. Nothing ever comes to pass except that which God has purposed. And the reason for God's purpose is the glory of his own name. All things are THROUGH GOD, AS TO THE MEANS AND INSTRUMENTALITY OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT. Everything in this world is accomplished "by" God's power, wisdom, and direction. And all things are TO GOD, IN THEIR ULTIMATE PURPOSE. Everything shall ultimately resound the praise, honor, and glory of our God. In this fact I rejoice with confidence God will be glorified!
2. THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD WILLL ACCOMPLISH ITS INTENDED PURPOSE.
Sometimes preachers who have no understanding in the word of God, talk as though the gospel is a failure. They think that the gospel is designed to save all men. It is not. It is designed by God for the salvation of some and the damnation of others. ALL WHOM GOD INTENDS TO SAVE BY THE GOSPEL SHALL BE SAVED BY THE GOSPEL. This is what God says about the matter - "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isa. 55:11). God himself has said it. THE GOSPEL SHALL ACCOMPLISH THAT WHICH HE HAS PURPOSED. I preach the gospel with confidence, knowing that God will make it successful, as he sees fit.
3. ALL OF GOD'S ELECT SHALL BE SAVED.
Not one of those sinners whom God chose in eternal election shall perish. Not one of those sinners for whom Christ died at Calvary shall perish. Not one of those sinners whom the Holy Spirit calls and regenerates by his almighty grace shall perish. All of God's elect shall be saved. This is what our Lord Jesus Christ said - "Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd (John 10:16). THE GOOD SHEPHERD WILL SAVE ALL OF HIS SHEEP.
These three things God has purposed: THE GLORY OF HIS OWN GREAT NAME, THE SUCCESS OF THE GOSPEL, and THE SALVATION OF HIS OWN ELECT. These are the things for which I labor and the things that I most greatly desire. My heart finds great satisfaction in knowing that God will accomplish his purpose. I rejoice to know, and trusts and worship such a God.
