THE GOSPEL OF GRACE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS
Rom. 10:4

Maurice Montgomery

God is so infinitely holy, righteous and just that he "will by no means clear the guilty" (Ex. 34:7). How then may I, such a guilty sinner, ever be "cleared"? The accomplishments of the Lord Jesus Christ, as God's appointed representative and substitute for sinners, was so thorough and complete, satisfying the law and justice of God so fully and perfectly, that the infinitely holy God can lawfully, legally, righteously, justly, FREELY forgive, justify and receive the most wicked and vile sinner who ever walked the face of the earth.

The Lord Jesus Christ accomplished for some sinners, all that the holy God required of those sinners. Therefore, those sinners not only may be saved from the wrath of God and made righteous, they shall be saved from the wrath of God and made righteous! That glorious proclamation of God's infinite love and grace in saving sinners by Jesus Christ is simultaneously a declaration of his righteousness in doing so (Rom. 3:23-26; I John 1:9). Those who claim to be preaching God's Gospel and are not preaching the righteousness of Jesus Christ freely imputed to sinners through faith in Him, are not preaching God's Gospel at all! God is "a just God and a Savior" (Isa. 45:21).

Therefore, does God say concerning His people, "Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more" (Heb. 10:17). Why? Because they are no more. They have been "purged," "put away," by the Lord Jesus Christ. What wonderful news for guilty sinners! There is full, perfect and FREE SALVATION in the Lord Jesus Christ. Sinner, do you believe God? Can you see in Jesus Christ all that your soul needs to stand before God without guilt and fully accepted of Him?
