This religious generation has but one popular answer to this question. They say it is because people reject the LOVE of God. Their message is "God loves you and wants to save you but if you dont let Him, He will have to send you to hell." Now, stop and consider a moment what this implies. 1. It says that a sinner maybe so depraved and rebellious that God cant save him, even if God wants to. Does that sound like the God of the Bible? No! The apostle Paul wrote, "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief" (1 Timothy 1:15). If God has saved the chief of sinners, none are excluded because they are too rebellious or strong for God. 2. It teaches that Gods love is a general, powerless, want-to-be love that is conditioned on how the sinner will respond. Imagine if a husband told his wife and children, "I will love you only if you love me first. If you dont love me, in spite of all the good things I do for you, then I will have to put you away."
This may be the "love" of the world, but it is not the love of God. His is an everlasting love, for an unworthy, undeserving people whom HE chose to save from all eternity, Ephesians 1:4,5.
It is conditioned wholly on the Sons righteous life and death in the place of His people. Since His Son has fully satisfied the Fathers righteous requirements, He is just in loving them. This He does without even the slightest variableness, neither shadow of turning, James 1:17. He saves everyone He loves in His Son. "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?..." Romans 8:35.
Popular religion continues to deceive many today with its seductive potion of "love," that only drugs its followers into thinking everything is alright. The bitter cries from hell will not come from those whom God loved at one time but now has to condemn, but rather from multitudes, deceived by their own depraved hearts, and false preachers. Christ said, "THIS IS THE CONDEMNATION, that LIGHT is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil," John 3:19. The condemnation is not because of love refused, but holiness despised, being already under Gods wrath, without Christ as Redeemer and Propitiation for their sin, John 3:36.
