LOOK UNTO ME AND BE YE SAVED

C.H. Spurgeon
(1836-1892)

From the cross of Calvary, where the bleeding hands of our Lord drop mercy, comes the cry, "Look unto Me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth;" from the garden of Gethsemane, where the pores of the Saviour sweat the blood of sorrow, the cry comes, "Look unto Me and be ye saved;" from Calvary's summit, through the darkness over a wicked land, where our Lord cries, "It is finished," I hear also the call, "LOOK UNTO ME AND BE YE SAVED." BUT, there comes a deceptive voice from within our vile nature, "No, no, look to yourself; look to your works; look to your religion!" Ah, my friend, if you look to yourself, you will be forever damned. As long as you look to yourself or anyone or anything but Christ, you will be damned; there is no hope for you! It is not a consideration of what you are, but a consideration of what God is, who Christ is, what Christ did, and where Christ is that will save you and me. It is looking NOT TO, but FROM YOURSELF to our crucified Saviour that will save you! Righteousness does not qualify you to come to Christ; sin is the only qualification for a person to come to the Redeemer and be saved. "Look unto Me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, FOR I AM GOD."
