No one will understand these words except those who have advanced into older years, and are trusting in the blood and righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now every little thing is a blessing. To behold a beautiful sunset has taken on profound meaning. Food is more delicious. The gentle breeze on the face is a cause of great gladness. To enjoy family is a delight. The worship in the assembly of God's people has a wonder to it. All things have decidedly more meaning. Is this not a taste of eternity in that glorious place where Christ is the light?
What are the goals of older believers? It is a certainty they have changed greatly. As this earthy existence dims, the one who knows the Redeemer can see the futility of this insane existence. Simple things have become so much more endearing to our hearts. It is a pleasure to be alone and think of that instant when we will behold the-face of Him who has become our Advocate with the Father.
Young believers do enjoy heaven already, but not as those who are nearing the portal of entrance into perfection. The ship draws near, and we now can see with clearer vision the shore of our eternal home. We see and hear the blessed Son of God much more distinctly than in earlier years.
Why, imagine this, as that old heart beats, we look forward to the glad day when it beats no more. Augustus Toplady, the writer of Rock of Ages, put it this way: "The consolations of God to such an unworthy wretch, are so abundant that He leaves me with nothing to pray for but a continuation of them. I enjoy heaven already in my soul."
Some say, "If I just had my youth back." Not me, brother! The Lord Jesus Christ has justified me with His precious blood, and that is all that this life is all about. There is no other purpose. Be glad in the Lord. I am!!
