THE MOST CARING CHILD

Todd Nibert

Author and lecturer, Leo Buscaglia, once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a 4 year-old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed into his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

There are times when that is all we can do! "Weep with them that weep" (Romans 12:15).

If I said, "I have a problem with murdering people, shoplifting and adultery," you would think these to be very serious crimes and you would think me to be a very evil man. But if I said, "I have a problem with unbelief," you would probably not think that to be so bad. This demonstrates our perverted way of thinking! Indeed, the sins I first mentioned are a great evil. But the Lord tells us that when the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, He convicts "of sin, because they BELIEVE NOT ON ME" (John 16:9). Holy Spirit conviction is conviction concerning the evil of unbelief!
